Dan’s Wedding Gift
“So make love to me.”
They are almost the most beautiful words he’s ever heard, apart from the night she told him she loved him – the night that this was supposed to happen. He remembers how she tasted then, the sweetness of wine on his mouth as he kissed her, the tentative way they explored each other’s bodies as though they were both too delicate to touch. This time feels very different. Very definite.
Still, he makes slow work of slipping out of his boxers, of leaning in to kiss her once more, of playing with the fingers of her right hand with his own. Their desire and longing for each other hasn’t waned since the moment they stepped through the door, it has just become more real.
The most wonderful thing about this night will not be the fact that it’s their first time together or that they fell in love before falling into bed. It will be the fact that the next person they make love to is the last.
